The Red Devils host their bitter enemies on Sunday knowing that they can dent Jurgen Klopp’s pursuit for Premier League glory, with the Reds currently level on points with leaders Manchester City .
Ferguson knows a thing or two about facing Liverpool, having played them 64 times during his 26 years as United’s manager, securing 29 victories along the way.
And interim boss Solskjaer is open to the legendary Ferguson giving the pre-match Old Trafford team talk, the Norwegian seemingly wanting his players to know just how important it is to beat the Reds.
“He would be welcome to have his talk to the players if he wanted to, the gaffer, because we know how much it meant for him to overtake Liverpool,” said Solskjaer.
“I think our players know what [playing against Liverpool] means for everyone at Man United.”
Solskjaer also knows all about eagerly-anticipated encounters with Liverpool from his playing days and is ready to go to battle on Sunday.
“I’ve played in a few of these myself and I know the magnitude of it for the fans, for everyone who works here, the staff,” United’s caretaker manager added.
“There has been many comments about, ‘this is the big one’ and ‘we’re looking forward to this one’.
“Then it’s our job to be focusing and channelling all that energy into performance mode when we start the game on Sunday.
“It’s not about emotions. I understand that emotion can be brought into it but we have to stay focused and controlled but with some fight in us as well.”
